Hallmark Store Closing at Pentagon Row

The Hallmark Gold Crown Store at Pentagon Row (1101 S. Joyce Street) will be closing next month.

The store is closing up shop on July 29 after losing its lease, we hear. Employees are telling customers that a Petco store will be taking its place. Lisa Epstein, a Petco spokeswoman, was unable to immediately verify that a Petco store will be opening at the location, but added that the company only discusses stores that are no more than three months away from opening.

The Hallmark store is offering all greeting cards and merchandise, including sale items, for 25 percent off until it closes.

So sad. Now where will all the 60-something ladies in pantsuits go on weekday afternoons?

    • Vera Bradley

      clown question, brah

      • DarkHeart

        Send in the clowns…

        • Maxine

… there used to be clowns

          • Judy

            Well, maybe next year…

          • Stephen Sondheim

            You people suck.

          • You Can’t……

You can’t say that to a clown !!!

  • Chris B

    How exciting, Pentagon Row.

  • James Moron

Oh no. Please no. I’m in disbelief. Can’t handle it.

  • John

We lose the one at Lyon Village, the card shop at Ballston Commons and now this?

    • JohnB2

The one in Ballston closed? on the ground floor sorta near CVS? Hmm, didn’t realize it. I walk by there all the time.

  • courthound

I have never understood how those places stay in business anyway when you can send a loud, annoying animated card for free.

    • JohnB2

The majority of people I’d send a card to (most aged 55+) wouldn’t appreciate e-cards over a real card.

      • Arlingtonian

Hell I’m 30 and I don’t appreciate e-cards over real cards. Getting a paper card in the mail and knowing someone took the time to pick it out, write a message and send it, is awesome.

+ 1 on writing to communicate

  • Save a Tree

    $12/year for unlimited e-cards at Hallmark.com

  • Frank

Huh. If that’s the case, then Federal Realty is really doing a disservice to their tenant, Dogma, in Shirlington. Let’s hope that’s not the case.

  • Lee Perry

    Do they sell pizza?

  • YTK

Yay PETCO! I stopped going to that Hallmark after the lady-in-charge there dissed me.

    • Vera Bradley

Seriously, though … who DOESN’T like paisley??

  • Tabby_TwoTone

The staff was always nice at this store.

I’m sad to see any business close. This said this store had a very rude staff. I tried not to go in there. When I did I never felt welcome. One day I was pushing my shopping cart to Harris Teeter and stopped in. The lady said I will take your cart and put it behind the counter. I said no thanks and made an exit. I was shopping and stopped on the bench out in front of the store. My small handbag slipped out of my grocery bag on the bench. I followed my steps back to the store and inquired. At first they said na we have not seen it then she said I’ll ask so and so. I got it back alright minus sixty bucks. Hosta la vista Hallmark.
