The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory and an Excessive Heat Watch for Arlington and the surrounding region.

With temperatures expected to exceed 100 degrees today and tomorrow (Saturday), forecasters are warning of possible heat-related illness. According to NBC 4, by Sunday this will be the longest heat wave — 11 straight days above 95 degrees — in D.C. area history.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING… … EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING…

* HEAT INDICES… AROUND 105 THIS AFTERNOON. AROUND 110 SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES… AROUND 100 THIS AFTERNOON. AROUND 100 TO 105 SATURDAY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACT… HIGH RISK OF HEAT EXHAUSTION OR OTHER HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS FOR THOSE WITHOUT AIR-CONDITIONING OR THOSE SPENDING TIME OUTDOORS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A HEAT ADVISORY AND AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH MEAN THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS… STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM… STAY OUT OF THE SUN… AND CHECK IN ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE… RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT AND LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK… THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR-CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY – CALL 9 1 1.

Well this is news to me.

Our pool was pretty warm on the 4th, I wonder how bad it will be this weekend.
We actually had a group of 20-somethings bring a mini beer tower to the pool on Wednesday. I couldn’t believe the nerve. I’m all for sneaking beverage into the pool area, but to bring a beer tower and then sit in the water itself with open containers was a bit more than a stretch of the rules.

    • neutrino

      The nerve!

      • Charles

By “straight” days, they mean “consecutive” days of course. Straight people cause enough grief in the world without blaming them for the weather, too.

        • Dezlboy

And, of course it’s the use of Girl Scout experience to beat the heat. Too bad, for the Boy Scouts cause……

Oh sorry, the heat got to me, I am really mixing my social and political rants all up…..

    • Hank

My monocle just fell out of my left eye just picturing those ne’er do wells! No goodniks abound in these troubling times!

    • malaka

      warm pool = pee

    • drax

John, please let me know when it happens again so I can come over there and give those kids a stern talking-to. I will get right in their faces in the pool, and help them dispose of all that beer. I’ll stay all night if I have to. This outrage cannot stand.

      • WeiQiang

Graduating from suitcases to beer towers?

        [btw, what’s a bee …

nevermind, I googalized it. so why don’t the bro’s just open the tap right in to the pool. same effect.

    • JohnB2

Haha well, I guess I am getting old. To me, the only place you should be ok with bringing open containers into the water is at a resort, not your condo’s pool. It’s also very disconcerting when you never see them getting out of the water to use the restroom… even when it’s less than 10-15 feet from the pool.

At least the lifeguard told them to take the case of bottled beer outside of the pool area to fill the tower.

      • sunflower

probably only because of the glass

    • Over the Hill

I must be low on geritrol, because I’m still trying to figure out what a “beer tower” is?

If you need me, I’ll be out back in my rocker watching the grass curl up and die…

      • JohnB2

It’s a vertical plastic cylinder on a stand, filled with beer, with a valve at the bottom for filling cups. They’ll hold anywhere between 60 and 100 ounces of beer, the ones I’ve seen anyway.

        • William

Wouldn’t that get warm pretty quick? Especially in this weather.

        • WeiQiang

i had to googlize it as well and the beer tower looks like it should have never been invented. it’s an abuse of a perfectly good beverage to have it exposed to the heat and sun.

          • bobco85

I’d be willing to bet that the “good beverage” in that beer tower is probably Naddy, Beast, or one of the other flavorless alcoholic drinks.

      • sunflower

don’t tell anyone i also had to google it. these kids today are sure inventive, but at least i could drink at 18.

        o tempora o mores!

    • The Dude

This will not stand, ya know, this aggression will not stand, man.

      • El Duderino

Well, sir, it’s this beer tower I had. It really pulled the room together.

        • WeiQiang

“on the next episode of HGTV’s ‘Pool Crashers’ …”

  • novasteve

It’s supposed to be 106 tomorrow. Whatever precautions you take today, do the same tomorrow.

    • CW

I’m going to need a bigger beer tower.

  • novasteve

    It’s peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

  • C02isYourFriend
