Morning Poll: Post-Labor Day Blues?

The official first day of astronomical fall isn’t until Saturday, Sept. 22 but, in all practicality, many of the trappings of summer end with Labor Day.

Gone are summer vacations, outdoor swimming pools, and summer festivals like outdoor movies and the Arlington County Fair. Starting, however, are more mild temperatures, football, and fall events like Oktoberfest, wine festivals and Clarendon Day.

Which do you prefer? Are you sad about the end of summer, or happy about the beginning of fall?

Fall is my favorite season. It’s the best time for hiking, biking, and enjoying the beautiful scenery in our area.

    • yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      I second it!

No swamp back every time you step outside, fall is the best.

Summer is so overrated. I’m happy to be rid of the heat and humidity. I wish it could be fall 12 months a year.

Summer around here is awful. Who wants to do anything outside when it is 100 degrees out? I wish they would move all those events – the outdoor movies, the fair, Jazz in the Garden, etc. – so that they would extend later into the year when the temperatures are actuall in the double digits. And in the case of Screen on the Green, they could actually start the films before 9 PM.

Back here in Arlington I’m looking forward to enjoying the few weeks of our 8 month outdoor dining season where it is actually tolerable to be outdoors.

and the county fair…instead of on 100 degrees day with horrible humidity.

Fall here is the best season, also the best time to visit the beaches. This summer was just brutal with the heat, hopefully the fall delivers as usual.

Summer is a delicious time. I hate Fall since I am less active.

Ahh!!! Is he gone yet? (Fervently spraying OFF from within a circle of citronella candles…)

I used to be all about summer. Living in this area has cured me of that. Triple-digit temps, no thanks. Bring on fall!

LOL always been a fan of the Fall myself. Can’t say I hate Summer but the heat and humidity just kills me. I hate having to bring bath towels every where with me to dry off then feeling like I need a shower 10 minutes after I got out the shower.
