Permanent outdoor dining sought by South American eatery on Columbia Pike

A South American restaurant on Columbia Pike has asked for county approval to implement outdoor dining.

Café Sazón would use a few privately-owned parking spaces in front of its storefront to permanently accommodate a patio area, according to an Arlington County Board report.

The restaurant currently has a temporary outdoor structure, installed under Arlington’s Temporary Outdoor Seating Area program. But permissions have since expired.

The patio adds five tables to the restaurant’s footprint at 4704 Columbia Pike, allowing it to host nearly 100 customers across both indoor and outdoor dining spaces.

The county manager’s office recommended the approval of the requested permit. It is scheduled to go before the County Board this Saturday.

“As proposed, staff does not believe that utilizing three (3) off-street parking spaces located on private property for an outdoor café will negatively impact adjacent uses or the neighborhood,” the report said.

Opened in 2010 as a Bolivian restaurant, Café Sazón’s menu has since evolved and been influenced by other South American countries.
