UPDATED: Police investigating shots fired along Route 1 in Crystal City

Arlington County police are investigating gunfire along Route 1 in the Crystal City area this afternoon.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Route 1 near the airport ramps. Initial reports suggest that a driver in a late model Acura sedan fired at least two shots at another motorist, who was driving a pickup truck.

There were no reports of injuries. It’s unclear what led to the shooting.

The shooter fled the scene after the shots were fired and has not yet been located.

ACPD issued the following press release about the incident Thursday evening.

The Arlington County Police Department’s Homicide/Robbery Unit is investigating a shooting that took place on Richmond Highway during the afternoon hours of June 19.

At approximately 2:06 p.m. on June 19, police were dispatched to 33rd Street S. and Richmond Highway for the report of a shooting. The preliminary investigation indicates the male victim was driving southbound in the 2600 block of Richmond Highway when the male suspect drove alongside his vehicle, brandished a firearm and fired at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the scene northbound on Richmond Highway.

A lookout was broadcast and responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect yielding negative results. The suspect is described as a thin Black male, approximately 5’8” with short dreadlocks driving a blue sedan.

Minor property damage and no injuries were reported. The victim reported just prior to the incident, he and the suspect were involved in a traffic collision in the vicinity of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
