Major improvements are in the plans for the McDonald’s at 4834 Langston Blvd.
The fast food restaurant intends to completely demolish the aging building, replacing it with a modernized restaurant next year “to serve our customers better,” area construction manager Michele Miller told ARLnow.
The project is expected to follow the company’s standard renovation plans, which include the installation of self-ordering kiosks and potentially a second drive-thru lane. Specific plans have yet to be finalized due to permits and other hurdles, Miller said.
Current plans, however, include the removal of the indoor PlayPlace. The future of the playground area’s Ronald McDonald statue, which was the victim of an attempted kidnapping last year, is also up in the air.
The Arlington School Board voted unanimously last week to formalize a deed with McDonald’s regarding the use of a stormwater basin on adjacent school property — a formality, according to schools director for facilities and operations Cathy Lin.
The informal arrangement, which had been in place for more than 20 years, was required to be formalized before certain permits could be approved, Lin said.
McDonald’s had requested an extension for a land disturbing activity permit earlier this year, but later withdrew the application, according to Arlington’s permit portal.
The restaurant sought a second drive-thru lane last year, but ultimately opted to reconfigure the entire parcel of land.
