Another hot day is on tap, with outdoor Arlington parks and rec activities from noon until 8 p.m. cancelled again amid yet another Heat Advisory (another advisory has already been issued for Wednesday).
As long as the area is scorching, the National Weather Service recommends staying in air-conditioned spaces and drinking plenty of fluids. An iced coffee run meets these conditions, but with it being so hot for so long, maybe you’re looking for something more unique than your average cold coffee.
With that in mind, here are 10 interesting iced coffees to look out for around Arlington.
Summer Fog Flavored Coffee
London Fog lovers may find themselves drawn to Simona Café’s Summer Fog flavoring. The drink add-in is a refreshing combination of peaches and rosemary.
The fog joins the Courthouse area cafe’s other summer flavors, orange blossom and strawberry basil. These can be added to any coffee drink for an additional charge ranging from $1 to $1.50 depending on the flavor.
Coffee Spritzer
Another citrusy option comes from Good Company Doughnuts & Cafe in Ballston and Pentagon City. The summer drink combines iced coffee, fresh lime juice and Topo Chico mineral water.
Strawberry Shortcake Latte
Fruit-flavored, summery iced coffees can be found at Commonwealth Joe Coffee Roasters in Pentagon City. The Strawberry Shortcake Latte, perhaps closer to a sweet treat than a coffee, is created with vanilla, strawberry and hazelnut syrups and rich condensed milk. It’s topped off with whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs and freeze-dried strawberry slices.

Coconut Cream Cold Brew
The Coconut Cream Cold Brew is part of D.C. area café chain Compass Coffee’s annual summer menu. For a sweeter option, Compass offers a Coconut Caramel Freeze, a frozen coffee drink.
Not a fan of coconut? The summer menu also features a Mint Cold Brew and seasonal breeze flavors, peach mango and strawberry dragonfruit. (Breezes are made by combining fruit and green tea.)
Iced Vietnamese Coffee
Chillzone Cafe in Yorktown serves up a wide range of authentic and fusion Vietnamese food and drinks. You can get traditional Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk over ice, in addition to several other espresso drinks, teas and matcha.
Habibi Latte
Detour Coffee Co. in Clarendon serves fresh pastries, coffee and food with Mediterranean-inspired flair. The joint’s specialty coffee menu includes the Habibi Latte — habibi means “my love” in Arabic. The drink, pictured above, is sweetened mildly with dates and flavored by walnuts, cardamom and cinnamon.
Dirty Horchata
La Coop Coffee in Arlington Forest offers a caffeinated spin on the traditional Latin American beverage. Its horchata is created with whole and rice milks, cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s sweetened with condensed milk and topped off with concentrated cold brew for a little boost.

Sparkling Grapefruit Cold Brew
Part of Peet’s Coffee’s seasonal favorites menu, this cold brew comes with a pink hue. The beverage is layered with grapefruit syrup and club soda, and it can be found at Peet’s locations in Clarendon and Shirlington.
Iced NOLA
Courthouse eatery Bayou Bakery specializes in authentic cuisine from New Orleans and the South. The Iced NOLA features rich coffee brewed with chicory root, a historical New Orleans specialty.
It’s a simple recipe: chicory coffee is accompanied by half and half and simple syrup. The chicory adds a toasty, nutty flavor.
Affogato
A chilly affogato might not come to mind at the thought of “iced coffee.” Still, summer might be the best time to enjoy espresso over gelato. The classic Italian treat can be found at several coffee shops in Arlington, including Gute Leute and Origin Coffee Lab & Kitchen.
