A “suspicious vehicle” in the Pentagon parking lot near Pentagon City has prompted road closures and an investigation.
Pentagon police said on social media shortly after 11 a.m. that officers were “responding to a suspicious vehicle in the Pentagon South Parking Lot.”
“Please avoid the area around South Rotary Road and Eads Street, and follow police direction,” the Pentagon Force Protection Agency said.
The Pentagon parking lot entrance at Army Navy Drive and S. Eads Street remains blocked nearly an hour into the incident, and commuter bus service has been suspended at the Pentagon Transit Center.
Police also briefly detoured southbound I-395 traffic onto Route 1 as a result of the ongoing investigation.
There’s no word yet on why the vehicle was considered suspicious.
As of 12:30 p.m., the Eads Street entrance has reopened and Pentagon bus traffic has resumed.
All commuter bus traffic has been suspended at the Pentagon Transit Center until further notice due to the suspicious vehicle located earlier today. https://t.co/hpsE3A6Q0A
