Arlington’s Torri Huske will be coming home from Paris with five Olympic medals, after a world record performance in the pool Sunday.
Huske and her fellow women’s 4x100m medley relay final teammates — Regan Smith, Lilly King and Gretchen Walsh — captured gold and set a new world record, all while besting second place Australia by a full 3.5 seconds.
As in Saturday’s mixed relay gold medal win, the Yorktown High School grad swam freestyle in the last leg of the race. In doing so, she was the last American in the pool in a medal event in Paris, with swimming now concluded for the 2024 games.
Announcers on the live NBC broadcast, around 1:45 p.m. local time, lauded another all-out swim by Huske.
“How appropriate is it to have really the best female swimmer for the United States wrap it all up in this gold medal count,” said Rowdy Gaines, the former Olympian.
“Torri Huske has given every ounce of effort,” said Dan Hicks.
Australia finished with a silver and China with a bronze in the relay. With this gold medal, the U.S. team now finishes atop the Paris gold and total medal count for swimming, with one more gold than the Aussies.
Huske will be returning to Arlington with three gold and two silver medals, adding to a collection that started with a relay silver from the Tokyo games. Of her Paris gold medals, two were from relay events and the first was from the 100m butterfly individual event.
In addition to praise from the NBC announcers, Huske has racked up plaudits on social media throughout the 2024 games, including from local officials and sports commentators.
