Thieves damaged a number of cars in a condominium parking lot near Pentagon City earlier this week.
The break-ins happened overnight Monday into Tuesday, at the Cavendish condos. The cars targeted were Hondas, Arlington County police say.
“At approximately 6:06 a.m. on August 6, police were dispatched to the late report of a larceny,” police said in a crime report. “It was determined between approximately 7:00 p.m. on August 5 and 6:06 a.m. on August 6, the suspect(s) forced entry into parked vehicles in the area and stole the airbags from seven vehicles. There is no suspect description(s). The airbags were stolen from Honda model vehicles.”
A tipster described some of the damage.
“Nine passenger vehicles in the parking lot of the Cavendish, located at 1200 and 1300 Arlington Ridge Road were broken into,” the tipster said. “All were various Honda models and the driver’s side door handles and locks were ripped off and the airbags stolen from the steering wheels. In addition, some residents had personal items from their vehicles stolen.”
“Fortunately there are many surveillance cameras actively recording in this area and evidence has been collected which will assist in identification of the suspects,” the tipster added.
“The investigation is ongoing,” said ACPD.
Arlington has seen numerous instances of Hondas being targeted for airbag thefts in recent years.
