A driver has been cited after striking a teen cyclist in a crosswalk near a high school this morning.
The crash happened just after 8 a.m. at the intersection of 13th Street N. and N. Quincy Street, adjacent to Washington-Liberty High School. An officer working in the area saw the crash and immediately radioed for medics to respond.
The bicyclist reported suffering back pain but was not hospitalized, at least initially.
“The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene and was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in the Crosswalk,” Arlington County Police Department spokeswoman Ashley Savage told ARLnow. “The bicyclist, a male in his teens, had minor injuries and did not require transport to the hospital.”
The crash prompted a partial closure of N. Quincy Street, snarling traffic for those trying to get to school on the last day before the extended Labor Day holiday.
