The Yorktown High School club ice-hockey team opened its season with a 4-3 win over Loudoun Valley High from Purcellville at the MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
The teams skated to a scoreless first period. Loudoun Valley scored first early in the second period, but the Patriots responded quickly on a goal from Logan McGraw.
Later in the period, after Loudoun Valley was leading 2-1, Bennett Haas hit Roger Allenbaugh streaking up ice with a pass. Allenbaugh scored to tie the match at 2.
In the third period, Yorktown got back-to-back goals from Henry Dwyer and Matthew Hamrick to take a 4-2 lead. Loudoun Valley added a late goal.
Yorktown goalie Brendan Thompson saved 18 shots. Assists on the Yorktown goals went to Haas, McGraw, John Chistolini and Benson Kluger.
The rest of the Yorktown lineup included Alex Olsen, Andrew Olsen, Andrew Levine, Stewart Bream, William O’Sullivan, Jamie Hardie, Matthew Herzfeld, Will Schryver, Peyton Tien and Gunnar Obitts.
Yorktown is back in action Friday (Nov. 22) at 7:10 p.m. at Medstar Capitals Iceplex against Heritage/Rock Ridge.
