An NYC-based French cafe is coming to Courthouse

The first Arlington location of a French-inspired cafe and bakery chain plans to open in Courthouse next year.

New York City-based Maman is coming to the ground floor of The Commodore apartments at 2055 15th Street N. Expected to open around summer 2025, Maman — meaning “mom” in French — is known for its blue floral aesthetic and menu items like quiche and tartine.

While menus vary from location to location, the French countryside-themed cafe serves brunch dishes including omelettes and eggs ratatouille, in addition to soups, salads and sandwiches. In the bakery, seasonal pastries like the apple chai pecan rolls accompany classic treats like pain au chocolat and chocolate chip cookies.

The Commodore will also serve Youky’s Club Sandwich, a dish exclusive to Maman’s D.C.-area locations, a spokesperson told ARLnow.

“We are thrilled to bring Maman to the heart of the Courthouse neighborhood,” co-founder Elisa Marshall said in a release. “With The Commodore’s vision for a vibrant community, we look forward to offering Arlington our signature blend of French-inspired, comforting cuisine and carefully crafted ambiance that so many have come to love.”

Several other businesses have previously announced plans to open on the ground floor of The Commodore, including YogaSix, Playabowls, Rumble Boxing, and SAKI. The 20-story apartment complex began accepting tenants last fall.

Maman has opened six locations across D.C. and Bethesda since it announced D.C. expansion plans in 2022. The cafe has over 30 locations total across the East Coast and Canada.
