Rosslyn tree lighting moved to tonight due to Thursday’s strong winds

Some holiday cheer is coming to Rosslyn this evening (Friday) with a tree lighting and dog-friendly happy hour featuring Santa.

The events were originally scheduled to happen on different days, with the tree lighting taking place yesterday evening — but it got pushed back due to strong winds. The twinkling Tannenbaum will now be celebrated in tandem with a “Santa Paws Yappy Hour” at Central Place Plaza, located at 1800 N. Lynn Street.

The evening of live music, raffles, pups and booze will last from 5-7 p.m., with the tree coming aglow around 5:30 p.m. In addition to beer, wine and spiked cider, the event sponsored by the Rosslyn BID will feature vendors with “pup-friendly goodies” — plus a visit from Santa “to wish you and your pet happy howl-idays.”

“Commemorate the evening by grabbing a complimentary photo print with him before he heads back to the North Pole,” an event page says.

After the festive evening, a two-day Holiday Market will kick off in the same location from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. tomorrow.

In addition to local vendors selling art, jewelry, snacks and other goods, the yuletide bazaar will feature free hot chocolate while supplies last, a Santa letter-writing station, and visits from Santa from 12-2:30 p.m.

Other free Holiday Market events include barrel train rides tomorrow from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (ages 13 and under) plus story time with Mrs. Claus and Buddy the Elf tomorrow and Sunday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
