ACPD: Woman grabs wallet back from suspect who was rummaging through her car

Arlington County police are looking for a man who brandished a gun at a woman whose car he broke into.

The incident happened Monday afternoon in a Ballston area parking garage. Police say the victim confronted the man and grabbed her wallet back from him after finding the suspect rummaging through her car.

The victim and a male companion followed the suspect but he fled the scene after allegedly drawing a gun on them.

ROBBERY, 2024-12300116, 4200 block of Fairfax Drive. At approximately 2:46 p.m. on December 30, police were dispatched to the report of an armed robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male and female victims were inside a parking garage when they observed the male suspect inside the female victim’s vehicle rummaging through the interior. The female victim confronted the suspect and retrieved her wallet from his possession. The suspect exited the vehicle, and the victims followed during which the suspect brandished what appeared to be a firearm before fleeing the scene on foot. No injuries were reported. The female victim’s credit cards and an undisclosed amount of cash were reported stolen. A lookout was broadcast, and responding officers conducted a canvass of the area for the suspect yielding negative results.

Also in the crime report, six teens are being charged with robbery and other crimes after allegedly stealing a hoodie from another teen in Pentagon City.

ASSAULT BY MOB, 2024-12300175, 1100 block of S. Hayes Street. At approximately 7:27 p.m. on December 30, police were dispatched to the report of a fight. Upon arrival, it was determined that two juvenile male victims were inside a commercial property when they became involved in a verbal dispute with a group of six juvenile male suspects. The two victims left the area and were approached a short time later by the group of suspects. One suspect made threatening statements towards the victims and implied a weapon. As the victims attempted to walk away, they were assaulted by the suspects during which one victim’s hoodie was stolen. The suspects then fled the scene on foot. One victim was transported to an area hospital for injuries considered non-life threatening and the other did not require medical treatment. A lookout was broadcast, and officers located the suspects in the area and detained them. Petitions were sought for the six juvenile male suspects for Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Assault by Mob. The investigation is ongoing.

Two of the suspects were arrested after a foot chase that started on the Pentagon reservation and ended at the nearby DEA headquarters building, according to video posted by local public safety watcher Dave Statter.
