A shuttered auto repair shop on Langston Blvd is being replaced with… an auto repair shop.
Signs for Metro Motor — a D.C.-area chain — now adorn the building at 5618 Langston Blvd, four months after the closure of Westover Service Center in the same space.
The new shop is expected to open “early” this year, according to Metro Motor’s website. The property was fenced off as of last week, with a large hole in the concrete and some manner of construction underway.
County officials approved the installation of two underground storage tanks back in September. An application filed in December would allow for the replacement of all fuel-related wiring and the installation of a leak detection system, according to online permit records.
Documents don’t explicitly say whether the location will supply gasoline for customers, but most of the original equipment is still there.
Metro Motor will face some competition in the area. It’s next to a Shell gas station and across from a BP gas station with auto repair services, while a Sunoco gas station with repair services sits just down Langston Blvd.
A request for comment sent to Metro Motor president Hamood Abutaa was read, but not responded to, before publication time.
Dubbed Metro Motor’s North Arlington outpost, the Langston Blvd location would be the chain’s fourth in Arlington. There are currently two locations near Clarendon, as well as another off of Columbia Pike.
According to the chain’s website, the new location will offer work ranging from routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire repair, to more intensive work on parts like motors and transmissions.
A reason for the closure of Westover Service Center, which Metro Motor replaces, has not been made public.
“Westover Service Center is officially closing our doors for good this month,” an August post on the shop’s Facebook page said. “We are sorry to say goodbye to our wonderful community but we couldn’t keep it going. Love you all for the many years of support.”
