More than 6,000 homes and businesses were without power Friday afternoon in the Pentagon City and Crystal City area after a major outage.
The outage started around 1 p.m. There were frequent police and fire dispatches to the area for traffic complaints, numerous elevators stuck with people inside, and a report of smoke and alarms in the Pentagon City mall food court.
The mall, a number of large apartment complexes and busy intersections in the area all lost power.
Dominion listed the cause of the outage as “pending investigation” and reported a total of 6,068 local customers in the dark as of 1:45 p.m.
As of 3:30 p.m., power has been restored to most locations, according to the utility company.
