Very cold weather over the next few days has prompted advisories from the National Weather Service.
Overnight low temperatures in the single digits or low-to-mid teens are expected all week. A Cold Weather Advisory — in effect starting tonight (Monday) and extending through Thursday morning — notes that wind chills could reach -10 degrees.
The frigid conditions present an elevated risk of hypothermia or frostbite for anyone who’s outside and not property protected.

The cold also affected today’s presidential inauguration, which was held inside the Capitol instead of the usual public ceremony outside. Today ranks as the the fifth-coldest Inauguration Day on record, NWS said.
Given a noon temp of 27°F at Reagan National Airport (Official D.C. weather observation), today’s Inauguration will now rank as the 5th coldest Inauguration Day since records started in 1871. Reagan’s Inauguration (1985) still stands as the coldest at 7°F. #MDwx #VAwx #DCwx #WVwx pic.twitter.com/MZMYZTqOha
