Thai restaurant plans to open where Hunan Village closed

A new Thai restaurant hopes fill the shoes of a longtime Chinese eatery that closed on Langston Blvd in November.

Thai O-Cha Express signed a lease at 4775 Langston Blvd in January and hopes to open there by early April, owner Chugiat Udommana told ARLnow. The space was previously home to Hunan Village for nearly 40 years.

It’ll serve fast-casual Thai eats

  • Udommana is focused on “affordable, high-quality Thai food” with gluten-free and vegan options, inspired by his mother’s recipes.
  • Chef’s specials under $15 include pineapple and pumpkin curries, chili mussels and stir-fried savory cashews with vegetables.
  • Other menu highlights include staples like pad Thai, drunken noodles, sweet-and-sour stir fry and a crispy basil duck.

Some Chinese food might be on the menu

  • In honor of Hunan Village’s legacy, Udommana plans to include a few Chinese dishes in addition to Thai staples.
  • The restaurant will have seating for about 30 customers inside, while delivery and pickup orders will be available through a mobile app.
  • Thai O-Cha Express opened its first location about five years ago in Ocean City, Md. The Arlington location will be its second restaurant.

Interior renovations are expected to begin later this week, Udommana said.
