Tierra Encantada bilingual daycare aims for May opening in Va. Square

A Spanish immersion daycare center hopes to open this May in Virginia Square.

Tierra Encantada is preparing to open at 3804 Wilson Blvd, where Staples closed last February. It has a tentative opening date of May 19, Alexandria program director Angel Ricardez told ARLnow.

The daycare can hold up to 150 kids

  • With a total of 10 classrooms, the new center will provide care for infants to pre-K age kids.
  • The program includes a Spanish curriculum tailored for early childhood, aiming for kids to reach fluency by the time they leave the program.
  • Other features include an indoor gymnasium, outdoor playground and daily meals and snacks.

It’s been in the works since 2023

  • Proposals for the new daycare first came in July 2023. Before Staples closed, the former owner had been searching for a replacement tenant.
  • The expanding Minnesota-based daycare provider has nearby locations in Falls Church and Alexandria.
  • Interested families can book tours of the new site on Tierra Encantada’s website.

Upon opening, the daycare will be open from 7 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
