A cyclist was seriously injured after being struck by a driver in Clarendon this morning.
The crash happened just after 8:30 a.m. on eastbound 10th Street N. at N. Irving Street, across from Fire Station No. 4.
Archived traffic camera footage from SafetyVid shows the cyclist waiting at the crosswalk as cars drive by, before the crash. The crash then happens during a gap in the video, after which the man can be seen lying mostly motionless in the middle of the roadway, a distance away from the intersection, as people run to help.
A vehicle with heavy front-end damage, including a smashed windshield, can be seen in the left-hand lane, just past the cyclist. Prior to the crash, that car appears to be mid-block as another car passes in front of the cyclist. The driver of the apparent striking vehicle could be seen rushing to help after the crash.
The victim was quickly taken via ambulance to a local trauma center with what were initially reported to be critical injuries. The two eastbound lanes of 10th Street N. were closed for more than an hour as police investigated the crash.
The cyclist is expected to survive, but suffered serious injuries, Arlington County police tell ARLnow. More, below, from ACPD.
