‘Semicolon Cafe’ arrives in Falls Church with Korean shaved ice and sandwiches

A new cafe with Korean shaved ice and brioche sandwiches has opened at the Founders Row development in Falls Church.

Semicolon Cafe, a small New York City-based chain that also offers classic cafe beverages and pastries, opened late last month at 103 Founders Avenue.

Bingsoo is a specialty dessert

  • The decorative shaved ice treat has Korean roots. At Semicolon, it’s blended with a mix of condensed milk and heavy cream.
  • Current flavors include chocolate and mango, which is topped with whipped cream, cheesecake cubes, Frosted Flakes, mango chunks and a wafer cookie.
  • The cafe soon hopes to introduce black sesame-, strawberry- and matcha-flavored bingsoo.

Coffee is sourced from Philly-based La Colombe

  • Refreshments include tiramisu- and pistachio-flavored specialty lattes, along with affogato, smoothies and fruit-flavored “ades.”
  • The cafe is also known for its brioche sandwiches, which are served upright in a handheld wrapper with scrambled eggs inside.
  • Each sandwich has its own combination of vegetable toppings and sauces, with variations like bulgogi and tuna.

The cafe relocated from Chantilly

  • The new cafe is Semicolon’s only Virginia location. Its previous location in a Chantilly food hall closed about a year and a half ago.
  • Semicolon Cafe is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. every day in Falls Church.
