At ARLnow, we believe that strong local journalism is essential to a thriving community. Our mission is simple but vital: keep you informed so you can live better and be more engaged in the place you call home.
What We Stand For
We’re committed to keeping our news reporting free to read because we believe everyone deserves access to the information that affects their daily lives — from school board decisions to new restaurant openings, from weather alerts to county budget discussions.
We’re dedicated to covering Arlington and Falls Church fairly and comprehensively. That means reporting on all corners of our community, giving voice to different perspectives, and holding local leaders accountable while celebrating the good happening in our neighborhoods.
We believe an informed community is a stronger community. When you know what’s happening at County Board meetings, understand local development projects, or stay up-to-date on school news, you’re better equipped to participate in the conversations and decisions that shape where you live.
The Reality of Local News
This work isn’t easy or cheap. With nine reporters and editors across our three Northern Virginia sites, including six who contribute to ARLnow, we’re now among the largest and most-read local news operations in the region. We’re covering more stories, more thoroughly, than ever before.
But quality journalism requires investment, and we’re operating on tight margins. While advertising revenue has bounced back from a swoon earlier in the year, we need reader support to make this level of comprehensive coverage sustainable.
