‘Entangled’ yarn shop and makerspace opens this weekend in Falls Church

A new yarn shop and haven for fiber arts enthusiasts opens in Falls Church this weekend.

Entangled will sell supplies and host events for knitters and crocheters at 103 Rowell Court. Kelly Schnapp, a Coast Guard veteran, federal employee and longtime knitter from Falls Church, hopes to help customers “escape from everyday stress” and connect to art.

Entangled will carry ‘eco-conscious yarns’

  • The shop, which replaces a closing law office, will sell yarns, hooks, books and pattern “inspiration cards,” in addition to gifts from CMS Supply Co.
  • The 850-square-foot space includes an “idea room” where customers can relax, brainstorm and receive project guidance or one-on-one instruction, Schnapp said.
  • Schnapp, who works at the Environmental Protection Agency, plans to sell “eco-conscious yarns,” including American Shetland wool and goods from online vendor Expression Fiber Arts.

For Schnapp, knitting is a release

  • The business owner has enjoyed knitting for two decades. She said she leaned into the hobby for comfort in January to cope with the stress of witnessing federal layoffs.
  • “That’s what knitting really provides me, is this very calming, almost meditative, physical experience,” Schnapp said. “You feel the fiber, see the colors. There’s a creative outlet to it, but if you don’t feel open to be creative, you can follow the pattern exactly.”

She will host classes and events

  • The store’s first workshop, a two-hour beginner’s knitting class, will take place at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $39 on Eventbrite.
  • Future events could include a Christmas stocking class, reality television nights and reticule purse making to commemorate Jane Austen’s birthday, Schnapp said.
  • The community aspect is important to the veteran knitter, who expressed gratitude to fellow small businesses Happy Tails, Ladan Holistic Spa and Pho Cyclo for their help in starting Entangled.

Entangled will be open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
