Arlington County has started preparations for a chance of wintry conditions Friday.
Several brine trucks were out on the streets today, working to pretreat major roads, hills, bridges and “trouble spots” in advance of any ice accumulation.
“They expect to have a few more trucks brining roadways tomorrow, particularly secondary arterials, school routes and some larger residential streets, through the late afternoon to early evening,” Kiara Candelaria Nieves, a spokesperson for the Department of Environmental Services, told ARLnow.
Whether Arlington will actually see a significant amount of snowfall remains a toss-up. The Capital Weather Gang is forecasting an 80% chance of the area at least getting flurries, but only a 50% chance of any accumulation.
Brine trucks were also deployed in Arlington on Monday, for what turned out to be a brief period of sleet overnight but otherwise mostly rain.
FRIDAY SNOW CHANCE Update
We're on northern edge of a weak system that will pass to south. We see 4 scenarios:
1) No snow: 20%
2) Flurries/no accumulation: 30%
3) Dusting/coating: 35%
4) 1-2"+: 15%
