It’s a winter wonderland outside, as Arlington and the D.C. area get our first snowfall of the season.
Across Arlington, traffic cameras show that main roads are mostly clear. Few problems have been reported, according to scanner traffic, with the notable exception of a multi-vehicle crash near the intersection of Patrick Henry Drive and Wilson Blvd in western Arlington. Police requested a salt truck to the area and temporarily closed the road.
At least 1-2 other spinouts or crashes have since been reported, though the volume of incidents is relatively light for a snow day.
Arlington Public Schools remains on a two-hour delay. Most everything else is operating as normal, from county government to Metrobuses.
According to forecasters, the immediate D.C. area appears likely to meet, if not overperform, the original “near 1 inch” accumulation expectation. The region remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until 4 p.m.
From the National Weather Service:
436 AM EST Fri Dec 5 2025
…WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON…
* WHAT…Snow, with total snow accumulations near 1 inch.
* WHERE…DC, central Maryland, and northern Virginia.
* WHEN…Until 4 PM EST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.

A light snow will overspread the advisory area, with slightly higher amounts possible in any banding features. As snow winds down, a light freezing drizzle is possible into the afternoon.

Crews out taking care of any slick spots. As always, if you must go out during a winter storm, take it very slow. And remember, no plowing until 2 inches down to protect road surfaces and equipment. Seems an unlikely accumulation today. #ArlWX pic.twitter.com/AlSwb2mBSs

DMV gang — we liking this morning’s festive flakes?
D.C. might overachieve a bit and end up in the 1-2 inch zone if this band of deformation (stretching) at the mid levels of the atmosphere continues to enhance snowfall rates! https://t.co/OO9J76fKE6
