Officer’s request for man to remove mask leads to arrests in Pentagon City

Two D.C. men are facing charges after an incident that started with a request to remove a mask in the Pentagon City Metro station.

It happened Thursday night around 5:45 p.m., with holiday shopping in full swing at the Pentagon City mall and the evening commute underway.

“An officer working a crime prevention detail at the Pentagon City Metro Station observed the male suspect wearing a face covering indoors and asked him to remove it,” said the latest Arlington County Police Department crime report. “The suspect ignored commands and attempted to flee from the officer. The officer attempted to detain the suspect when a second male suspect grabbed the officer from behind.”

“Additional responding officers were able to detain both suspects,” the crime report adds. “No injuries were reported.”

The arrested suspects are both 25-year-old District residents. One was “charged with Wearing a Mask in Public and Obstruction of Justice,” while the other was “charged with Assault on Police, Wearing a Mask in Public and Obstruction of Justice,” according to ACPD.
