Arlington firefighters extinguished an intense vehicle fire along Columbia Pike over the weekend.
The fire happened shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, in the parking lot behind the Bank of America branch at the corner of the Pike and S. Monroe Street.
Video shared with ARLnow, below, shows firefighters arriving on scene to battle the blaze. Several small blasts could be heard, possibly from popping tires, before the fire was put out.
The beginning of the video contains coarse language. Later, the person behind the camera could be heard saying they had difficulty reaching 911 to report the fire.
“My son and I called 911 multiple times, but no one responded,” the man later told ARLnow. “Once we saw the fire engine approaching we just didn’t call again.”
An Arlington County Fire Department spokesman had little additional information to share about the fire.
“[There were] no injuries to occupants or firefighters,” said Capt. Jamie Jill. “[Fire marshals] will be investigating.”
It was a busy day of vehicular incidents for ACFD. About an hour before this fire, a two-vehicle crash left one car overturned near the intersection of Four Mile Run Drive and Columbia Pike, according to scanner traffic. And around midnight, firefighters extinguished a fire following a fatal crash involving a car that ran into the front of a building along S. Glebe Road.
