UPDATED: Two pedestrians struck in Ballston road rage incident

Two people suffered serious injuries after reportedly being struck by the driver of a Jeep in a road rage incident.

The incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of N. Glebe Road and N. Wakefield Street in Ballston, near SER Restaurant. Initial reports suggested both victims suffered serious traumatic injuries after being intentionally struck by a driver.

Police later said one of the victims, who was crossing Wakefield Street in the crosswalk and not involved in the road rage incident, suffered injuries that were not considered serious. Both victims are expected to survive.

Southbound N. Glebe Road was closed during the response to the incident but reopened around 8 p.m.

Police were looking for a Jeep with D.C. tags, which fled the scene and might have been gotten onto I-66. In an Arlington County Police Department crime report that was published Friday, below, police said the vehicle was recovered but the driver remains at large.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2025-12180170, 1100 block of N. Glebe Road. At approximately 7:17 p.m. on December 18, police were dispatched to the report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect and Victim One were driving their vehicles eastbound on I-66 when they became involved in a verbal dispute. They continued driving until coming to a stop in the area of N. Glebe Road and N. Wakefield Street during which the victim exited his vehicle. The suspect  then accelerated his vehicle, striking Victim One. As the suspect fled the scene, he struck Victim Two, who was not involved in the dispute, as he was crossing N. Wakefield Street in the crosswalk. The victims, both adult males, were transported to an area hospital; Victim One with non-life threatening injuries and Victim Two with serious, non-life threatening injuries. Responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect, described as a Black male, yielding negative results. During the course of the investigation, the vehicle was identified and recovered in Washington D.C. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
