Grocery Outlet plans to open in Falls Church next month

The forthcoming Grocery Outlet Bargain Market in Falls Church is targeting an opening date one month from now.

Grocery Outlet, the replacement for a shuttered small-format Target store at 500 S. Washington Street, plans to open on Feb. 12, the company announced in a press release today (Monday).

This will be Grocery Outlet’s first store in Virginia, but it’s expected to “kick off a series of openings across the state,” the press release says. The grocery store has more than 500 other locations in 15 U.S. states.

“We are thrilled to open our first Grocery Outlet store in Falls Church and give shoppers the best of both worlds: unbeatable treasure-hunt deals on unique finds and significant savings on everyday grocery essentials,” said Jason Potter, CEO of Grocery Outlet. “This is all part of our commitment to helping families stretch their budgets without sacrificing quality.”

Grocery Outlet primarily sells overstock or closeout products, often offering deep discounts on name-brand goods. Locations’ inventories may vary week to week and month to month.

The Target at 500 S. Washington Street closed in 2023, leaving a vacancy at the 455 at Tinner Hill development. GrillMarX, a steakhouse and raw bar that originated in Olney, Md., opened at the development in September 2025.

Grocery Outlet will be the sixth grocery store within the Little City’s 2.2 square miles, joining Giant, Harris Teeter, Aldi, Good Fortune Supermarket and Whole Foods. Its latest addition was the Whole Foods store opening at the Broad and Washington development in early 2025.

The next expected opening is a Fresh Market planned at the West Falls development.
