GrillMarX steakhouse opens first Virginia restaurant in Falls Church

A family-owned steakhouse and raw bar from Maryland hosted a ribbon cutting at its first Virginia restaurant yesterday (Monday) in Falls Church.

Olney-based GrillMarX is now open in the Little City, serving hand-cut steaks, hearty entrees and Virginia wines at 510 S. Washington Street. The new two-level restaurant hosted its grand opening on the ground floor of 455 at Tinner Hill apartments.

“We’re really excited to break into this market,” Executive Chef Doug Kellner told ARLnow. “We know there’s some competition around us, but we promise, we strive for excellence … We really strive to be a great hospitality restaurant where you can come in and you can be in a tuxedo or shorts and a T-shirt, doesn’t matter.”

It offers seven steak cuts

  • GrillMarX’s steaks are sourced from Midwestern farms, cut in-house and wood-fired using hickory and oak, Kellner said.
  • The restaurant’s specialty cut is a 14-ounce Hawaiian-inspired Kona ribeye. It also offers fresh seafood, burgers and sandwiches, and 12-hour slow roasted barbecue ribs.
  • The steakhouse’s beverage program features local wines. It’s the first restaurant to offer wines from Chester-based vineyard Ashton Creek, Manager Joey Raff said.

It can seat about 370 guests

  • The steakhouse takes up roughly 10,000 square feet, not including an outdoor patio with umbrella seating and a fire pit for about 60 guests.
  • The restaurant is equipped with two full-service bars and two private dining spaces on the mezzanine level, offering up to 32 seats when combined.

Brunch, kid’s menu to come

  • Kellner said the restaurant hopes to implement some new features in the coming weeks, including a kid’s menu, weekend brunch and rotating seasonal menus.
  • GrillMarX is currently open for lunch and dinner. Its hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • 455 at Tinner Hill is also expected to welcome a new ground floor supermarket, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, sometime in 2026. It plans to open where Target closed.
