Bob & Edith’s Diner on Langston Blvd closes permanently

The Bob & Edith’s Diner location on Langston Blvd has closed for good, the business has confirmed.

The local 24-hour diner chain, ranked the No. 2 best breakfast spot in the county in an ARLnow Reader’s Choice poll, announced yesterday (Monday) that its location at 5050 Langston Blvd had permanently closed.

The restaurant near the intersection of Langston Blvd and N. George Mason Drive opened in summer 2020. It was one of eight Bob & Edith’s locations in Northern Virginia, including other spots in Crystal City and on Columbia Pike.

It is unclear when the diner’s last day in business was, but the building’s signage has already been removed. A large box truck could also be seen parked in front of the door in a photo sent by an ARLnow tipster on Saturday.

Greg Bolton, the owner of Bob & Edith’s, did not respond to a request for comment. Future plans have not been announced for the site, which Bolton purchased for $1.1 million in 2018, according to county property records.

The Langston Blvd location was previously home to Linda’s Cafe.

Arlington residents can still get their fill of classic bites like eggs, waffles and hot cakes at other Bob & Edith’s locations at 539 23rd Street S. on Restaurant Row and at the brand’s flagship location at 2310 Columbia Pike.

Bob & Edith’s started in 1969 with the purchase and re-branding of a local restaurant called Gary’s Donut Dinette. With 24-hour service, the local chain offers a large spread of breakfast, lunch and dinner options, including as six signature omelettes and 20 different sandwiches and burgers.
