A discount grocery store coming to Falls Church plans to mark its grand opening next week with money-saving festivities.
Grocery Outlet Bargain Market intends to open its doors at 500 S. Washington Street at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, offering gift cards worth varying amounts to the first 100 customers. The top prize is $500.
For one month after the store’s grand opening, customers can also enter a sweepstakes to win $1,000 in free groceries, the company announced.
“This is all part of our commitment to helping families stretch their budgets without sacrificing quality,” Grocery Outlet CEO Jason Potter said last month. “We’re excited to continue that commitment in Virginia.”
Nationwide, food prices are expected to rise by about 3% this year, according to estimates from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The Falls Church location will be Grocery Outlet’s first in Virginia.
Unlike other discount chains like Aldi and Lidl, Grocery Outlet carries a wide selection of name-brand goods. It can offer lower prices because its inventory is primarily overstock or closeout items, but this also means the store’s offerings tend to change week to week and month to month.
“Grocery Outlet is proud to be able to offer community members products at prices 40% to 70% below those of conventional retailers,” the company said.
The Falls Church location has already begun posting videos on social media, including a recent clip showing an array of health and beauty products. It also promises “a variety of plant-based, gluten-free, and organic items in our NOSH section.”
