A family-owned nail salon franchise that opened during the throes of the pandemic has closed for business near Rosslyn.
Paint Nail Bar, a nationwide chain franchised by local couple Kevin and Amber Donohoo, closed at 1520 Clarendon Blvd this week after more than five years in business. The salon is holding a final sale to get rid of merchandise, supplies and furniture at discounted prices through this Saturday.
The Donohoos announced the closure in an email to customers on Tuesday, saying it was “an incredibly hard decision, and certainly not one we ever expected to make.”
“Thank you for allowing us to be part of your routines, celebrations, and moments of care,” they wrote. “It has truly been an honor to serve this community, and we will always be grateful for the support you showed us along the way.”
The husband-wife duo, who also own a Dogtopia location in Springfield, opened Paint Nail Bar in fall 2020. They now plan to prematurely exit a 10-year lease and franchise agreement.
Another Paint Nail Bar in Leesburg announced last month that it would be rebranding to “Gloss Nail Collective.”
“We’ve had amazing support from the community. The Rosslyn BID, it’s been fantastic. Our clients have been great. We’ve had amazing technicians,” Kevin Donohoo said. “But at the end of the day, looking at the numbers from where we started and where we are now … [it] didn’t make sense for us to continue the path that we were going.”
The Donohoos said they are “supporting [employees] as they transition to new opportunities.”
Paint Nail Bar currently has 17 locations across the country, including one in nearby Bethesda, Md.
Now through Saturday, the departing franchisees are hosting a final salon sale, “offering everything in the salon at discounted prices, including nail supplies, tools, furniture, décor, and more.” Hours are 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and only cash and Venmo will be accepted.
