Alpacas to spotlight new happy hour at Peruvian restaurant in Pentagon City

A new limited-time happy hour in Pentagon City is offering specials on Peruvian cuisine — and the opportunity to meet a wooly friend or two.

Guests at Peruvian Brothers can sip pisco sour slushies while enjoying the company of alpacas on Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. through the end of May. “Alpaca Happy Hour” will take place in a small outdoor enclosure at 1450 S. Eads Street, restaurant co-founder Giuseppe Lanzone told ARLnow.

Guests can take selfies, pet the alpacas and feed them hay and grain, which will be provided by the owners, Lanzone said.

“We take great pride in being part of the National Landing neighborhood,” said Lanzone, who owns the business with his brother, Mario. “After opening at the Water Park during the pandemic and eventually landing our location here at Amazon HQ2’s Metropolitan Park, we are so happy to continue bringing unique experiences to our community.”

The fluffy, house-trained guests are coming to Arlington from the Delaplane-based and Peruvian-owned pet rental group, My Pet Alpaca. Their animals are about half the size of a typical alpaca, so they’re considered “mini-alpacas,” according to the business’ website.

“Since that makes them ‘not good for show,’ we took advantage and got the smallest (and cutest!) ones for ourselves,” the website reads. “Their small size makes them a lot easier and safer to handle around kids and to bring to indoor events.”

This isn’t My Pet Alpaca’s first trip to Arlington. Two of the group’s alpacas, Teddy and Truffle, paid a visit to Inca Social in Rosslyn last summer for a similar happy hour outing.

Specials at Peruvian Brothers’ happy hour include a buy one, get one half off deal on pisco sour slushies, two for $12 empanadas and a $35 family meal, which comes with a whole Peruvian chicken and three large sides.
