Another season of live jazz music is returning to Metropolitan Park in a few weeks.
The annual Jazz @ Met concert series, now in its fourth year, starts back up on Thursday, May 7 and will continue through June 18 at 1330 S. Fair Street.
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs while partaking in refreshments from nearby vendors and giveaways from Mocktail Club. Attendees can also participate in crafts like watercoloring, stitching and screen printing alongside artists from the Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington’s Innovation Studio.
This year’s music lineup is available below.
- May 7: The JoGo Project (Jazz meets Go-Go)
- May 21: Joe Brotherton (New Orleans Jazz)
- June 4: Eric Byrd Trio (Acoustic Jazz Piano/Vocals)
- June 18: José Luiz Martins (Brazilian Jazz)
Additionally, more dates and descriptions for MoCA’s planned crafts are listed below.
- May 7: “Even Colors Dance” (Synesthetic Watercolor): Be guided in automatic and abstract resist watercolor painting while listening to the varying sounds of jazz music. Led by David Ignacio, current Resident Artist at Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington’s main museum
- May 14: “Paper Garden”: Make a flower collage postcard alongside the founder of Arlington Collage Collective, then put it in the post to send to family or friends! Led by Jaqui Falkenheim of Arlington Collage Collective.
- June 4: “Stitching Systems: Mapping Home”: Stitch a simple path with yarn and burlap that reflects some daily movement through your home. Each square will become a part of a growing collective quilt that maps how we move through and divide shared space. Led by Lauren Crawford, current Resident Artist at MoCA Arlington’s main museum.
- June 18: “Day Inking with JD”: Screenprint a tote bag with the artist, then take a brain vacation while you collage a color bursting postcard. Led by JD Deardourff, recent Resident Artist at MoCA Innovation Studio.
The yearly series is hosted by the National Landing BID in partnership with the DC Jazz Festival and sponsored by Amazon. Attendance is free, but reservations are encouraged on Eventbrite.
