Looking for engaging Earth Day activities for the whole family?
Look no further than Earth Day Every Day on Langston Boulevard, a day-long street festival filled with live music, delicious food, children’s art activities, environmental education opportunities and a sustainable art market. The event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the Lee Heights Shops, 4500 Cherry Hill Rd.
Hosted by the Langston Boulevard Alliance, with programming and marketing support from founding partner Arlington Arts, Earth Day Every Day on Langston Boulevard offers a chance for the entire Arlington community to unite in celebrating our local environment and the planet itself. This festival commemorates the global Earth Day movement that began in 1970, urging us all to play a part, big or small, in preserving and protecting our environment. With a variety of activities available, there’s something for everyone:
Exploring the Sustainable Art Market: Eco-friendly Creations from Local Vendors
- Recycled Works: 2D and 3D mixed-media works made from found objects.
- Cycle Killer Accessories: Art and wearables made from used bicycle parts.
- JDash Design: Often incorporating repurposed materials into his pieces, Marine Corps veteran Jonathan Ashley creates stained glass that transforms spaces.
- Mary Pike: Known to some as the Recycled Bag Lady, Pike’s hand-crocheted tote bags are made from plastic bags.
- Alana Rivera Studios: A range of jewelry, including a line made from Arizona Tea cans, gift cards and other upcycled materials.

Participate in “The Poet is IN”
The Poet Is IN returns for National Poetry Month. Keep an eye out for the pop-up booth presented by Arlington Cultural Affairs featuring noted regional poets who will create a free, personalized poem just for you in real time.
Enjoy Performances by Acclaimed Artists Throughout the Day
- Rainbow Rock Band (12:00 p.m.): Join the Rainbow Rock Band as they entertain your little dudes with tunes, laughter and more! Winners of a Parents’ Choice Fun Stuff Award for their debut CD, “Meet the Rainbow,” they mix education with musical genres from folk, pop rock to rockabilly.
- Mariachi Estrellas (1:10 p.m.): One of the region’s most notable ensembles of the genre, Mariachi Estrellas has entertained diplomats and governmental dignitaries, television personalities, professional athletes and lovers of folkloric music.
- Munit Mesfin (2:30 p.m.): Singing in Amharic and English, Ethiopian-American singer and songwriter known for her collaborations with German guitarist Jӧrg Pfeil, and her exploration of the Roberta Flack canon.
- The Longtimers (3:50 p.m.): DC’s finest old-school band: expect high energy Americana roots rock inspired by New Orleans, soul and more.
