The first of three incoming bagel spots officially opened in Ballston today (Tuesday) with bright colors and big crowds.
Call Your Mother welcomed its first patrons at 4000 Wilson Blvd with free coffee cards and “Ballston-inspired stickers,” a spokesperson told ARLnow. This followed a soft opening yesterday, where the Arlington Chamber of Commerce surprised the new business with an impromptu ribbon cutting.
During parts of the morning and the lunch rush today, the line snaked out of the door of the establishment known for its bagel sandwiches like the “Bacon Sun City” — with bacon, eggs, cheese and spicy honey — and the “Royal Palm,” with cream cheese, smoked salmon, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion and capers.
Summer specials at the new spot include a piña colada iced latte, “The Veranda” open-faced bagel with mashed avocado and hard-boiled egg, and the “Alta Gracia Choripán” with smoked chorizo, chimichurri and pickled vegetables on a poppy seed Hawaiian bagel bun.
Call Your Mother is one of three bagel places expected to open soon in Ballston.
Elsewhere in the neighborhood, PopUp Bagels — known for its unique “rip and dip” approach — is still incoming at 4300 Wilson Blvd. As of April, the business was planning to open in late summer or early fall.
Meanwhile, at 901 N. Glebe Road, Alexandria-based Bagel Uprising appears to be coming together, with bagel-inspired decor visible on the interior. It’s unclear when this will open; it originally targeted a May opening.
