Balloon arches up, patio seating is in place and workers were bustling around The Angie amid its long-awaited debut at 3901 Fairfax Drive, which included free coffee and pastries this morning, a spokesperson told ARLnow.

Beginning with a grand opening on June 6 that broke attendance records for the franchise, The Scoop N Scootery (1138 N. A Rita’s Italian Ice and a new cafe concept with in-house coffee roasting are in the works at two vacant storefronts in Cherrydale.

The dessert spot and the coffee shop, Good Trouble Roasters, are both preparing to open in retail bays at 3800 Langston Blvd — a shopping area that has seen significant turnover, but where the smash burger restaurant Burger Billy’s Joint has found success since spring 2024.

After about a year of preparations, a Nashville-inspired burgers-and-fries franchise is seeking to open soon in the Buckingham neighborhood.

Nash & Smashed aims to open next month at 310 N. Glebe Road, serving up hot chicken, sandwiches and smash burgers, Chief Operating Officer Lamaan Malik told ARLnow. The restaurant, which replaces a former Boost Mobile, will have seating for 25 guests and will stay open late throughout the week.

A new cafe opened this week in Crystal City, offering espresso, tea and a selection of meals at an office undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation project.

Constellation is now in business at 2011 Crystal Drive, serving coffee, loose-leaf tea, entrees and house-made pastries along with grab-and-go items. The space can seat about 60 guests and is equipped with a “slow bar,” where customers can purchase beverages prepared in a more deliberate, intentional fashion than a typical fast-paced cafe.

The French-inspired cafe chain Maman is coming to Ballston next month, joining the neighborhood’s shifting breakfast-and-brunch landscape.

The New York City-based business, known for its blue-and-white floral aesthetic and Oprah-approved cookies, is preparing to open its second Arlington location at 4121 Wilson Blvd in “early April,” a spokesperson told ARLnow.
