The French-inspired cafe chain Maman is coming to Ballston next month, joining the neighborhood’s shifting breakfast-and-brunch landscape.
The New York City-based business, known for its blue-and-white floral aesthetic and Oprah-approved cookies, is preparing to open its second Arlington location at 4121 Wilson Blvd in “early April,” a spokesperson told ARLnow.
The restaurant will help fill a gap in Ballston’s cafe scene following the recent departures of Poppyseed Rye, two Starbucks locations and the Compass Coffee at 4300 Wilson Blvd.
It will also be joined in the neighborhood by two forthcoming bagel shops: Call Your Mother, which is preparing to open in the vacant Starbucks space at 4000 Wilson Blvd, and Alexandria-based Bagel Uprising at 901 N. Glebe Road.
Once open, Maman will replace a 2,100-square-foot vacancy left by Greenheart Juice Shop, which closed in October.
The chain, which plans to offer breakfast, lunch and brunch as well as catering, has another location in Courthouse and a cafe in Pentagon City that is expected to open in “Q2” this year, a spokesperson said.
The new eatery will have space for 30 guests, serving up its full espresso and tea menu, cold-pressed juices, pastries and made-to-order savory dishes in an atmosphere inspired by the south of France. Customers can expect a space accented by vintage furniture, Floratorium floral installations and imported wall tiles.
On an as-yet unconfirmed opening date, the cafe will give away complimentary tote bags and cookies with purchase to the first 100 customers. Its planned hours are 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekends.
