Mae’s Market and Cafe closes in Pentagon City, making way for new Maman

After just over a year in business, a Pentagon City cafe selling baked goods and lunch items has shuttered — apparently making way for another cafe.

The windows of Mae’s Market and Cafe are papered over at 1450 S. Eads Street with signs advertising another tenant: Maman, a New York City-based chain that opened its first Arlington location in Courthouse this fall.

Mae’s Market’s social media accounts appear to be inactive and its website redirects to a 404 error page. ARLnow was unable to reach Nicole Jones, the owner of Mae’s Market parent Modest Bread, for comment.

Mae’s opened its Pentagon City location in Oct. 2024, three years after the brand’s first location in Old Town Alexandria. That location has also shuttered, closing late last year.

The cafe, which Jones had previously said was an homage to her grandmother, offered salads and sandwiches, as well as scratch-made baked goods like cinnamon rolls, biscuits, scones and more.

Also for sale were a variety of grocery items, like cheese and wine.
