After spending almost a decade in Colorado chasing a dream, a triathlete is making the 2,000-mile journey home to Northern Virginia on foot.

Collin Chartier, a Fairfax native and 2017 Marymount graduate, was once a top-15 ranked triathlete in the United States until a three-year doping suspension in 2023 abruptly halted his professional career. He’s now charting a new path in hopes of helping others — involving an extended charity run across much of this country.

A Shirlington Italian restaurant is shutting its doors for repairs after flooding earlier this month.

Corso Italian will be closed at 4024 Campbell Avenue for an uncertain period of time after flooding on Aug. 2 caused “significant damage” to a dining room and the basement, owner Jill Erber wrote in a letter to customers yesterday (Wednesday).

While one all-you-can-eat sushi spot just opened on Columbia Pike, a similar restaurant further north in Arlington appears to have closed.

Sakaki Izakaya, a Clarendon restaurant selling Japanese street food, rice and noodles and desserts in addition to sushi, is listed as “permanently closed” on Google. No official announcements appear to be posted online, but the restaurant at 3227 Washington Blvd was not open during its listed hours yesterday (Wednesday) and it is no longer accepting online orders.

A membership-only, indoor golfing facility meant for avid golfers looking to improve is now open in a high-rise near Ballston.

The Golf Yards opened earlier this month in Three Ballston Plaza at 1100 N. Glebe Road, offering members 24/7 access to eight golf simulators, putting/short game areas and a high-performance gym. The seventh-floor space is already nearing its membership cap, co-founder David Stillman told ARLnow.

A new all-you-can-eat spot for sushi, sashimi and nigiri is open in Penrose Square.

MoMoGoGo opened its doors at 2501 9th Road S. this past weekend, serving rolls in an atmosphere heavily inspired by Japan — with booths designed after Japanese gazebos, faux maple leaves and screens displaying scenes from the land of the rising sun.

A pop-up book sale, live music and an event honoring furry friends are all coming to the Rosslyn Farmers Market over the next week.

A book sale by Turning the Page — a nonprofit that hosted another event in Crystal City last month — will take place today (Wednesday) from noon to 6 p.m. at 1800 N. Lynn Street. The event promises over 3,000 gently used books, plus CDs, DVDs and vinyl records.

A new series of outdoor events in Ballston is offering free scoops of Van Leeuwen ice cream tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Honeycomb” ice cream made with caramel candy will be available in a courtyard at 4075 Wilson Blvd, which organizers are calling “The Commons Pop-Up Park,” starting at 11:30 a.m. and continuing while supplies last.

Students are arriving at Marymount University this week for their fall semester, potentially resulting in some traffic delays near the main campus.

Move-in began yesterday (Sunday) and will continue through this upcoming weekend, but the busiest day is expected to be Wednesday from 6:45 a.m.-5 p.m. This is the university’s official move-in day, with first-year convocation scheduled for Thursday morning.

A new spot for cupcakes, ice cream and other sweet treats is preparing to open in Falls Church.

Lil’ Cakes & Creamery, a local chain, is hoping to open at 120 Founders Avenue by the end of August, a spokesperson told ARLnow. The shop specializes in gourmet cupcakes with flavors such as key lime pie and caramel macchiato, plus treats like milkshakes and cookie ice cream sandwiches.

A new Afghan restaurant serving family recipes for kabobs, flavorful meat and baked goods opened on Langston Blvd earlier this year.

Amu Kitchen offers western Afghan cuisine with Mediterranean influences at 4775 Langston Blvd, with kabobs including char-grilled lamb, flame-grilled chicken, smoky ground beef and vegetable options. A specialty is the qabuli palau, a large piece of lamb cooked in rice to infuse it with juices and flavor.
