ACPD: Man drunkenly fired gun while fishing near Chain Bridge

An Annandale man is facing charges after police say he fired several gunshots while fishing on the Potomac.

Arlington County police were dispatched to the area around Chain Bridge just after midnight this morning after D.C. police reported the sound of gunfire on the Virginia side of the river.

“Responding officers canvassed the area and located and detained the male suspect on a nearby riverbank,” according to today’s crime report. “The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect was fishing when he allegedly produced a firearm and discharged multiple rounds. No injured persons or property damage were located.”

Among the charges the 21-year-old suspect is facing are “hunting while under the influence.”

SHOTS FIRED, 2026-10010001, N. Glebe Road at Chain Bridge Road. At approximately 12:05 a.m. on October 1, police received an alert from a neighboring jurisdiction for shots heard in the area. Responding officers canvassed the area and located and detained the male suspect on a nearby riverbank. The preliminary investigation indicates the suspect was fishing when he allegedly produced a firearm and discharged multiple rounds. No injured persons or property damage were located. During the course of the investigation, a firearm was recovered. [The suspect], 21, of Annandale, Va. was arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharge of a Firearm in a Public Place and Hunting while Under the Influence.

Also in today’s crime report, a boy allegedly struck another box with a knife on a Sunday afternoon two weekends ago.

The victim suffered minor injuries and a suspect was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding, assault and battery, and consuming alcohol under 21.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING, 2026-09300201, 4000 block of 15th Street N. At approximately 2:51 p.m. on September 20, police were dispatched to the report of trouble unknown. Upon arrival, it was determined the juvenile male victim was outside when the juvenile male suspect in his late teens, who is an acquaintance, allegedly approached, displayed a knife and struck him with it. The victim then attempted to walk away when the suspect ran after him with the knife while making threatening statements. When the victim called police, the suspect stopped following him and the victim continued walking. He sustained minor injuries and was evaluated and released on scene by medics. A lookout was broadcast and responding officers located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area of 9th Street N. and N. Pollard Street and took him into custody. During the course of the investigation, a knife was recovered. Petitions for the juvenile suspect were obtained for Malicious Wounding, Assault and Battery and Consuming Alcohol Under 21.
