Police are searching for a man who pulled a knife on a store employee in Courthouse before escaping into the Metro.
The robbery happened yesterday morning (Thursday) around 7:30 a.m. at a business — the CVS, according to initial reports — on the 2100 block of 15th Street N., near the Courthouse Metro entrance.
The man hid merchandise and was confronted by an employee, according to Arlington County police. The two struggled over a shopping basket, and the man then showed a knife.
The employee walked away and called police, while the man ran into the Metro station, police said. No one was hurt, and officers searching the area did not find him.
It’s the same block where a man with a gun robbed the Courthouse CVS in November 2023, also escaping police after the holdup.
From today’s ACPD crime report:
ROBBERY, 2026-10010035, 2100 block of 15th Street N. At approximately 7:34 a.m. on October 1, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined the male suspect entered the business and concealed merchandise. An employee confronted the suspect during which there was a struggle over a shopping basket and the suspect displayed a knife. The employee then walked away and called police and the suspect fled the scene into the metro. No injuries were reported. Responding officers canvassed the area for the suspect yielding negative results. The suspect is described as a Black male with a beard, approximately 5′8″-5′10″, wearing a multi-colored hoodie, black pants, a black jacket and sunglasses. The investigation is ongoing.
The robbery comes a couple of weeks after a resident raised concerns about public safety around the nearby county government headquarters at the Sept. 19 County Board meeting.
An ARLnow review of police scanner traffic from Aug. 11 to Sept. 22 found 56 public safety calls in and around Courthouse, 30 of them involving reported violence, weapons or threats. The CVS on 15th Street N. came up more than any other location, with 11 calls, most of them for thefts. In at least four of those, the suspect was reported to be heading toward the Metro.
