A new spot for sushi, ramen and poke is open for business in Crystal City.
Okinami opened recently on the ground floor of The Grace and Reva apartments, primarily operating as a takeout restaurant near other establishments such as Flight Wine Bar, Bar Chinois and Toastique.
The restaurant’s menu ranges from tuna, red snapper and eel nigiri to classic sushi rolls in varieties like shrimp tempura, yellowtail, crispy crab and spicy salmon.
Okinami’s signature rolls include the Salmon Teriyaki Roll with cooked salmon, avocado and spicy seasoning; the Tri Amigo Roll with tuna, salmon, tilapia and smelt roe; and the Yami Yami, a shrimp tempura roll with spicy tuna, tempura flakes and Japanese sauce.
Customers in the mood for noodles can choose from three ramen dishes, including two miso ramen options of pork or chicken. Poke is also available with options such as tuna, salmon and shrimp.
Okinami is owned by longtime area chef Yong Kang, who has been operating locally since 1987. The restaurant’s name means “offshore wave” and is inspired by the iconic woodblock print, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa.”
Okinami is open Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.
