An officer responding to a call about a car playing loud music was struck by the driver as he attempted to flee, according to police.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. this past Saturday, on the 800 block of N. Wakefield Street, just west of Ballston.
Police say that the driver, a 23-year-old Arlington resident, also struck a parked car after striking the officer. The officer “did not report any injuries,” according to an Arlington County Police Department crime report, below.
The suspect was later arrested at a home in the Halls Hill neighborhood, ACPD said.
Court records show he was out on bond from a DUI charge — his second after a 2020 arrest — this past Christmas Eve. He’s due back in court on Aug. 5.
MALICIOUS WOUNDING ON POLICE, 2024-06080069, 800 block of N. Wakefield Street. At approximately 5:00 a.m. on June 8, police were dispatched to the report of a vehicle playing loud music. Upon arrival, the officer observed a parked, occupied vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle. As the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the suspect began to drive away, striking the officer with the vehicle. The officer did not report any injuries. The suspect then struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle as he fled the scene. A perimeter was established and responding officers conducted a search of the area for the suspect. The suspect was subsequently located inside a residence in the 2000 block of N. Culpepper Street and was taken into custody.
