A rideshare driver may be charged after pepper spraying an allegedly unruly passenger.
The incident happened around 11:15 p.m. last night (Sunday) on Crystal Drive in Crystal City.
The driver reportedly got into an argument with a female passenger, leading both to get out of the car and him to pepper spray her after she “allegedly threatened him.” Police responded and took away the pepper spray, though the passenger had already left the scene by the time they arrived.

MALICIOUS WOUNDING BY CAUSTIC AGENT, 2024-07280224, 1600 block of Crystal Drive. At approximately 11:22 p.m. on July 28, police were dispatched to the report of an assault with injury. The preliminary investigation indicates that the female victim was a passenger inside a rideshare vehicle when she became involved in a verbal dispute with the male driver and allegedly threatened him. Both parties then exited the vehicle and the driver deployed pepper spray before the victim walked away. The victim contacted dispatch, reported minor injuries and left the scene prior to police arrival. Responding officers located the driver on scene and recovered pepper spray. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Another weekend incident in Crystal City also made the crime report. A driver was robbed of his wallet by a knife-wielding man who opened the driver’s side door of his parked car near the intersection of Route 1 and 23rd Street S., police said.
It happened around midnight on Saturday.
ROBBERY, 2024-07270002, 2300 block of Richmond Highway. At approximately 12:05 a.m. on July 27, police were dispatched to the report of a robbery by force. Upon arrival, it was determined that the male victim was inside a parked vehicle when the male suspect approached, opened the driver’s side door, assaulted the victim, brandished a knife and stole the victim’s wallet before causing property damage to the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
In addition to the crime report, ACPD today also issued a call via social media for the public’s help in helping to find a critically missing 16-year-old girl.
She was last seen along Columbia Pike, in the area of the Harris Teeter and the Barcroft Apartments.
