A country-themed bar with a mechanical bull is coming to Clarendon

Two newcomers are coming to Clarendon’s nightlife scene, hoping to open where Coco B’s and B Live were shut down last year.

Nettie’s Tavern and Boe, a country-themed bar, are attempting to fill the vacancies at 2854 Wilson Blvd, according to recent county permit filings and Virginia ABC licenses issued this month. The county deemed the property unsafe in December due to issues with its sprinkler and fire alarm systems.

Boe plans to offer mechanical bull riding and drinks alongside a country Western atmosphere, local restaurateur and nightlife impresario Anoosh Jahanian tells ARLnow. In preparing for construction, the bar has also addressed the county’s prior concerns, he said.

“The build safety requirements have been addressed, permit set issued, and construction work will start next week,” Jahanian said.

Boe intends to use only a portion of Coco B’s floor space. The rest of the space will retain the previous bar’s theme and “tiki concept,” he added.

Nettie’s Tavern, meanwhile, is a new concept by Copperwood Tavern founder Reese Gardner. It is slated to open in B Live’s space, according to a Virginia ABC license.

Gardner, who also owns hospitality group Wooden Nickel Bar Company and Greenheart Juice Shop, declined to comment for this story, but said more details would be available at a later date.

The new establishments were foreshadowed over the summer when the property was listed for sale or lease online.

B Live, which appeared to have closed around the same time, opened in 2022, while Coco B’s joined and took over the rooftop space a year later. The latter became the subject of many complaints about loud music and unauthorized live entertainment.

Before Coco B’s and B Live’s arrival, the property was home to longtime watering hole Whitlow’s.

Coco B’s and B Live owner B Social Hospitality did not respond to requests for comment.
