A bike lane paving project in Crystal City is beginning tomorrow (Tuesday).
Paving on Crystal Drive and S. Clark Street, previously slated for completion today, is beginning later than expected because of last week’s storms. Motorists should expect lane closures, no street parking and a full crosswalk closure at 23rd Street S.
Crews are hoping to complete the project by Friday, but additional expected rain mid-week could push the project until after Memorial Day, a county spokesperson told ARLnow.
The project, which is part of the Crystal City Bike Network plan, will add a new bike segment on S. Clark Street between 20th Street S. and 23rd Street S., widening the current lane into a two-cycle track.
It will also add a one-way, southbound protected bike lane along Crystal Drive between 20th Street S. and 23rd Street S.
Working hours are expected between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day of paving.
The following areas should prepare for “anticipated impacts,” including dust and noise.
Locations
- South Clark Street (20th Street to 23rd Street South)
- Crystal Drive (18th Street South to 26th Street South)
Traffic Impacts
- Staggered closures on the north and southbound lanes. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
Parking Restrictions
- Temporary “No Parking” signs will be placed at locations with street parking at least 48 hours prior to the start of the work
Crosswalk Closures
- Full crosswalk closure at Crystal Drive and 23rd Street South to allow crews to replace the brick crosswalks with asphalt. Flaggers will be present at all four corners of the intersection to help pedestrians cross in any direction.
- Partial crosswalk closure at Crystal Drive and 20th Street South. Use 18th Street South as an alternate crossing.
- Partial crosswalk closure at the corner of South Clark Street and 23rd Street South. Flaggers will be present at all four corners of the intersection to help pedestrians cross in any direction.
The county recommends pedestrians use the 18th Street S. crosswalk in lieu of closed and partially closed crosswalks.
