Family-owned banh mi shop to host grand opening next week at Eden Center

A banh mi shop with fresh baguettes and vintage decor will celebrate its grand opening at the Eden Center next week.

Banh Mi Oi will cut the ribbon on its new Falls Church location at 6795 Wilson Blvd next Wednesday, July 16. The celebration, which will include free merchandise and menu samples, opens to the public at 10 a.m.

Offerings blend ‘tradition and innovation’

  • The Saigon-inspired shop serves Vietnamese coffee, tea and about a dozen banh mi variations on fresh baguettes baked in-house.
  • It will debut some new banh mi options next week, including Nashville hot, nem nuong (pork sausage) and tom chien (shrimp).
  • “Our food is fast but thoughtful — blending tradition and innovation,” a spokesperson wrote. “We’re not just making bánh mì; we’re reclaiming its cultural value in modern America.”

The shop honors a family’s history

  • Yeanie Bach, a second-generation Vietnamese American, founded Banh Mi Oi in 2020 with the goal of making Vietnamese street food “more accessible and respected in the U.S.,” according to a release.
  • It was a full-circle moment for Bach, who helped her mother work at a banh mi cart during her childhood in Saigon.
  • Decorated with a vintage Vietnamese aesthetic, the new shop is Bach’s third restaurant and first location outside of the Boston area.

Other developments at the Eden Center

  • The Eden Center has welcomed a few new businesses over the past few months.
  • These include the new food hall Pop Up District and Viet Gourmet, a Vietnamese import shop with snacks, spices, tea and more.
